the forgotten worlds - arunachal pradesh and meghalaya - day 10 & 11 - kamakhya and reaching shillong

Tripoto

day 10 was actually supposed to be a buffer in case of any delays in reaching back to guwahati from arunachal. so i decided to visit kamakhya temple in guwahati.

the place where sacrifices are made

it was a five hour wait to get inside to see the god, so i gave that up and came back to the hostel.
in the evening i went for a walk to the near market area.

end of day 10

early morning i had booked ticket for going to shillong in meghalaya. assuming government buses would take me faster was the first lesson of the day.
this is the bus i took.
right at the toll gate between guwahati and shillong huge amount of smoke started coming out of the engine shell.

nobody seemed to be worried much about it. they just poured water over the engine and everything cooled down.
the bus was ready to take us to shillong after that, thank god for small mercies.
after reaching shillong in about 5.5 hours(which should have ideally taken 3 hours) and a little misunderstanding between the car rental guy and myself about his location, i hired a gearless scooter to continue my travel in meghalaya for the next three days. the scooter rental is rs. 700 per day.
the president was coming for some convocation that day, so i rushed to get out of shillong at the earliest so that i wouldnt be caught in any traffic jam.
i couldnt reach the number of the hostel in which i was going to stay. so i had to call their number a number of times. finally the booking was confirmed and i went ahead to silverbrook hostel in mylliem, a little outside of shillong.

since there was some time left for sunset i decided to visit the elephant falls near by.

end of day 11
